Can Cerakote Gun Coating Be Customized?

Can Cerakote Gun Coating Be Customized?

Cerakote is a ceramic-infused coating that protects firearms from wear and corrosion. It also offers numerous colors and finishes to customize the look of your gun.

Cliff Diseker at Lone Star Gunsmithing & Cerakote prefers H-series Cerakote because it has more color options and is heat resistant up to 625F. “It can also be applied to polymer and plastic parts, making it ideal for the tight tolerances of a gun.”

Customization

For a long time, gun owners used to protect their firearms by bluing. However, bluing is labor-intensive and requires renewing on a regular basis. Cerakote gun coatings are a more durable alternative to traditional bluing.

Developed by NIC Industries, this proprietary coating offers a hard finish that is resistant to corrosion, abrasion and chemicals. It is also highly customizable and can be applied with stencils, patterns, letters, engraving and more to achieve any desired design.

In addition to its color options, cerakote is extremely flexible and can endure up to 32% elongation without distortion or loss of the coating (ASTM D522). Its flexibility allows for it to be used on various materials including steel, wood, polymer and composite.

Cerakote can be applied to any surface and can be used to customize the look of a weapon. The process is relatively simple, but requires complete disassembly of the firearm. In addition to disassembly, the parts must be blasted and thoroughly cleaned to ensure a quality application.

Corrosion Resistance

Cerakote gun coatings are made to protect your firearm from corrosion and rust. This type of finish is incredibly effective at repelling corrosive chemicals, and it is able to resist intense temperatures. The cerakote coating is also extremely durable, and it is capable of protecting your firearm from abrasions.

Previously, people used to use blued steel and stainless steel to protect their guns against rust and corrosion. However, this method was not as effective as cerakote. This coating is a polymer-ceramic composite, and it can be applied to various materials, including metals, woods, polymers, and composites.

Besides looking awesome, this material offers a wide range of colors and patterns, which gives you the freedom to customize your gun according to your personal style. You can choose from a variety of earth-tone shades or even design your own custom color. Cerakote is available in two formulas: air-cured and oven-cured. The air-cured formula is better suited for the tight tolerances of gun parts, while the oven-cured option is best for large-area applications.

Longevity

Cerakote is incredibly thin, and can be applied to nearly all materials used in firearm construction. This includes steel, aluminum and plastics/polymers. The finish is very hard, and resists abrasion and corrosion, while being easy to clean. It also looks great, and won’t cover up or affect the accuracy of a firearm.

Cerakote will last for a long time, even with repeated use. It resists scratches and chips, and can withstand heavy impact. It’s also very durable, and will resist environmental elements such as heat and humidity.

Cerakote can be applied to almost any surface, including metals, plastics and polymers, and wood. Different series of cerakote require different preparation and curing procedures, but most products can be coated with the H-series. This heat-cured version has the best abrasion, corrosion and chemical resistance. It is also UV stable. Sigouin has seen H-series Cerakote fade under months of continuous direct sunlight, but it would take much more than that to significantly degrade the coating.

Low Maintenance

There are many different methods for finishing gun metals, but none are as durable or low maintenance as cerakote. It is a ceramic-based coating that is available in many different colors and can turn your firearm into a work of art. It also protects the gun from corrosion, and the abrasion-resistant finish increases its lifespan.

This crazy-thin coating is insanely strong, and it can withstand the rigors of daily shooting and handling without chipping or flaking. It can even resist a 180 degree bend over a mandrel and 160 inch-pounds of ball bearing impact force without showing any sign of failing.

Cerakote can be applied to a wide range of materials, including metals, plastics and polymers, fiberglass and wood products. Different series will perform slightly differently, but your local Cerakote specialist will know which one to use on your firearm or weapons system. Some products, such as rubber grip panels and illuminated sights cannot be baked, so they should be removed prior to painting.
