Custom Cerakote Finish at Lone Star Gunsmithing and Crakote

Custom Cerakote Finish at Lone Star Gunsmithing and Crakote

When it comes to protecting your firearm and customizing its appearance, Cerakote is one of the most popular upgrades on the market. This ceramic polymer coating withstands chemicals, solvents and abrasion far better than anodizing or bluing.

To apply the Cerakote correctly, Cliff Diseker, Master Gunsmith at Lone Star Gunsmithing and Cerekote, will disassemble each piece of a customer’s firearm. Then uses a special medium to surface blast the parts, degrease and bake out to clean them thoroughly so the Cerakote will adhear properly.

A professionally applied coat of Cerakote over a pristine and prepped  upper and lower receiver set can completely transform the look of your modern sporting rifle. The eye-catching colors and patterns available make it easy to stand out from the crowd of AR builds.

The oven-cured ceramic polymer coating protects metal firearm parts from impact, abrasion, corrosion and chemical penetration. It can also withstand extremely high temperatures without failing, making it the ideal choice for firearm finishes that need to be used in harsh environments.

Cerakote can be applied with nearly any color or pattern, and the finished product is very durable. However, the complexity of the design will influence the overall cost of the project. DIY kits on eBay for full firearms start around $150, but never last more than several month due to old product (it has a shelf life) and impropper surface preparation. A professional Cerakote applicator will cost more for projects that require intricate graphics or multiple colors and as a result will last a virtual lifetime.

Cerakote in Desert Camo

The Desert Camo finish on your gun creates a sleek, understated aesthetic while protecting against wear and tear. This finish reduces glare and light reflection, making it a popular choice for tactical shooters who need to remain stealthy in various shooting environments. This finish also contributes to the overall market value of a firearm, as it indicates that the firearm has been well-maintained and is in good condition.

Cerakote offers a wide range of colors and finishes, making it easy to customize the appearance of your firearm. It is also extremely durable, offering superior protection against impact, abrasion, corrosion and heat. Additionally, it can withstand thousands of holstering/unholstering cycles.

When applying Cerakote to firearm parts, it is important to follow proper preparation procedures. This includes degreasing, media blasting and masking. It is also important to use the right spraying equipment, apply the correct thickness and follow proper cure times. Mistakes during these steps can ruin the final look of a Cerakote job and it is not repairable. You must start from scratch.

Cerakote Basic in Black

Whether you are looking for a unique way to customize your gun or just want a protective coating, Cerakote is the way to go. This ceramic polymer coating resists heat, oils, cleaning solvents and corrosion – even salt spray – far better than traditional firearm finishes.

In addition to being a durable finish, Cerakote can be applied in a wide variety of colors and patterns for a one-of-a-kind look. It can also be paired with hydrographics to create custom patterns, such as 2-tone, 3-tone, woodland camo, American flag, simulated raptor tears or digital camo.

To prep a gun for Cerakote, it is first completely disassembled – every spring, pin and lever is removed – then soaked in non-chlorinated alkaline solution for degreasing. The parts are then blasted and prepped for spray booth. Masking is used to protect threads and areas where the color does not want to adhere. After the application of several thin coats and a cure in an oven, the gun is ready for reassembly.

Cerakote in Green Effects

Cerrokote is a ceramic-based coating that can be applied in a wide range of colors and patterns. It can withstand extreme temperatures and is abrasion resistant. This finish is a good choice for firearms because it protects them from wear and tear while adding a custom look.

Before applying the Cerakote, the parts are blasted with blast media to remove any contaminants from the surface. Then they are soaked in degreaser and heat-treated to draw oil from the pores of the metal. The pieces are then sandblasted down to bare metal and hand sprayed with the Cerakote. After each color is applied, the parts are flash cured for 5-10 minutes. This allows the Cerakote to harden enough for stencils to be applied.
